Parent’s Hub

Bienvenidos a la clase de español
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

For some of you this may be your first time having your son or daughter in my Spanish class, but for others it could be your son/daughter’s tenth time having me (okay, I may have exaggerated)! Either way, I’m very excited for the upcoming school year and what it has in store for us. I will be teaching a variety of classes that range from sixth to twelfth grade. I’m sure that not only will your son or daughter learn some new Spanish, but you may also too! I encourage you to ask your son or daughter each night what we went over in class. He/she will have homework and quizzes, varying on the class. I also hope that you take the time to familiarize yourself with my website (including our class moodle account)- I have plenty of resources for both you and your child. On each class webpage, I have both the course overview and expectations for the student’s use. In addition, I will also be sending out daily classroom updates via e-mail or text alerts (free) using REMIND101. Please fill out the parent questionnaire if you’d like to be included in the class updates!

This school year the Spanish Department has been working vigorously to incorporate TPR/TPRS (Total Physical Response/Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) strategies into our curriculum. We will be using the TPR method to help you acquire a vocabulary foundation and to familiarize you with the sounds of Spanish.  We will begin to incorporate TPRS, or storytelling as your skills develop.  We will use these methodologies throughout the semester.  You will not have a book, but will have handouts and be expected to take vocabulary notes. We will be using the TPRS book by Blaine Ray entitled, New Mini-stories for Look I can talk, as well as other resources.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me at rleid@ltsd.k12.pa.us or ext. 1327.

SWAP (Assessment policy)

Assessment procedures

Formative Assessment Re-takes

Want to re-take a quiz?

  1. You must complete a Retake Form online the day you receive the graded quiz.
  2. I will create the quiz that night and you will be expected to correct your responses by the time you retake the quiz. You will hand in the corrected quiz before you retake the quiz.
  3. It is your responsibility to retake the quiz within the next week. If you don’t retake it, the original grade will count and you have lost your retake privileges for that specific assessment.

If you receive a grade on a quiz with which you are unhappy, you will have the chance to retake it. You may not receive higher than a 90% on a retake. You may retake an assessment only once and they may only be formative assessments (not novel tests or end of unit tests). The highest grade will count. Therefore, it is imperative that you study and see me with any questions you may have BEFORE taking the retake! You will NOT be allowed to retake any part of the Final Exam!

Biography

About Me

I am a graduate of Williamsport High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State University (University Park) in Mechanical Engineering.

I have nearly 10 years experience working in engineering type capacities for various Pharmaceutical / Medical Device companies. While working as an engineer I worked towards and received a Masters degree in Mathematics Education from Widener University in Chester, PA.

During the last year of working towards my Masters degree, I made a career change to teaching High School Mathematics. Prior to coming “back home” to teach at Loyalsock, I worked for 4 years at Ridley High School, just outside of Philadelphia.

I have been married for 14 years and have two daughters: Ava, 6 years and Elaina, 5 years. My wife is also from the Williamsport area.

I have continued to work as an Engineer during the Summers while teaching, and am currently in rolled in graduate school for a 2nd Master’s Degree in Pure Mathematics.

I am very much looking forward to working with the students of Loyalsock.

I am an avid golfer and angler and love doing home repairs.
