The Loyalsock Township School District has partnered with several colleges and universities to allow our students to earn college credit while in high school. We attempt to provide many advanced opportunities as possible for our students. We think these partnerships will allow many of our students to easily earn between 15 and 30 college credits while still in high school. This can be a huge cost savings for our Loyalsock families. Our partnerships include:
The Pennsylvania College of Technology
We have partnered with The Pennsylvania College of Technology for many years. Our students earn college credit by participating in the Penn College NOW program. This dual enrollment program allows our student to earn college credits by taking approved classes. The following information is from the Penn College website:
Penn College NOW is a dual enrollment program which allows students to take college courses while in high school. The courses are taught at the high school or career and technology center by Penn College approved high school instructors. The courses follow the college syllabus and require college approved textbooks.
To enroll in a Penn College NOW course, the student must pass the Penn College reading placement test which will be administered at your school. Courses also require that students meet any pre- or co-requisites required for the individual course.
Beginning Fall 2014, the tuition for Penn College NOW is free.
Generally, 11th and 12th grade students are eligible to participate in the program. A limited number of classes are available to 10th grade students or limited to seniors only.
Penn College NOW credits and course grades will appear on a Penn College transcript and may be applied toward specific Penn College degrees or transferred to other post-secondary institutions. The extent to which the credits will transfer to another college or university is at the discretion of that college or university.
Loyalsock Township School District offers several PC NOW courses each year and our students earn college credits when taking these courses. Remember there is no cost for our students.
Harrisburg Area Community College
Starting in the fall of 2015, Loyalsock Township School District students who are juniors or seniors can enroll in college classes offered through the dual enrollment program at Harrisburg Area Community College. We have selected approximately 12 classes that our students can take and earn college credit. The following information is from the Harrisburg Area Community College website:
HACC’s Dual Enrollment program gives qualified high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to receive high school and college credit simultaneously. Students participating in dual enrollment may enroll in credit courses at the 100-level or higher (some courses may require placement testing and/or pre-requisites). Dual enrollment students may not take developmental coursework (classes below 100 level).
Dual enrollment students can take college credit courses at any HACC campus, at an off-site location or online. The credits you earn may satisfy high school graduation requirements. These course credits also become part of your permanent HACC record. You can apply them to a HACC degree program or transfer them to another college.
Why should I participate in the dual enrollment program?

Your high school must recommend you for the program. You must also meet course prerequisites through HACC’s placement testing program.
The Loyalsock Township School District will reimburse families for ½ of the cost of the course. Course cost $300 per three credit class and the District will reimburse families $150 after successful completion of the course.
Keystone College
Keystone College has partnerships with over 20 high schools. Students can earn college credits through Keystone College by taking advanced placement classes right here at Loyalsock Township School District. Students in grades 10-12 who take these courses can earn college credit at Keystone College. In most cases, the courses will transfer to other colleges and universities. There are various websites that are useful to determine college transfer credits. An example is https://www.collegetransfer.net
Thus far, the following Advanced Placement (AP) courses have been approved through Keystone College.
AP Biology
AP Calculus
AP English Lang & Comp
