Secondary Campus Media Center

Lester L. Greevy Secondary Campus Media Center

The Lester L. Greevy Media Center is located at the center of the secondary campus and welcomes students as a center of learning and growth.  Whether visiting for reading, research, study, collaboration, creation, or direct learning, we hope to provide accommodation and support.  The library staff is eager to help with all your research, materials, and pleasure-reading needs. Please feel free to ask Mrs. Popowycz or additional Library staff members for assistance at any time. We will work hard to provide for your resource needs.

Library Hours

The library is open and staffed from 7:40 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Individual students and/or entire classes are welcome to visit and use all services and products within the library.

Student Facility Use

Individual students must have a library pass (e-hall pass) to be admitted to the library during regular school hours. Library passes may be obtained from a classroom teacher, a library aide, or a librarian. All students must present a pass to the adult at the circulation desk upon entering the library and sign in using a physical sign-in sheet. The general expectation for library use is individual initiatives, but collaboration is welcome via high-top tables and Apple TV AirPlay.  When collaborating, student conversations must be conducted in a manner that does not disturb others.

Classroom Instruction Facility Use

Classroom instruction takes place in the media center, with direct instruction provided by our librarian to high school and middle school students, as well as through hosting dual enrollment and independent study coursework.  In each period or block, the library is bustling with a mix of instructional and learning methods.  To secure use of a specific location, feel free to contact me via email at kpopowycz@loyalsocklancers.org or stop by to check the signup calendar at the circulation desk.  Library location photographs and descriptions for reservation are listed below:

Faculty Facility Use

Teachers can reserve a full space and time via email. Media Center spaces available are the Library Main, Computer Lab, Mac Lab, Library Classroom, and the Media Suite.  Each space is prepared to meet the needs of groups or individuals, with casting available for instruction, demonstration, or collaboration.  We are hopeful of growing this aspect of library use to support more efficient, space-appropriate learning and growth for the student body.  We are also excited to gather and create a professional library section for educators learning and growing in the teaching profession.

  • Library Main Space:
Our main space houses our collection of books and displays, as well as ample flexible seating to accommodate students.  We have also expanded screencasting availability for use in this space.
  • PC Computer Lab:
The PC Computer Lab hosts 30 brand-new PCs with updated operating systems and software.
  • Library Classroom:
Our Library Classroom has a capacity for 32 students in a traditional environment with screencasting ability and general classroom supplies.
  • Media and Testing Suite:
Our private Media and testing suite is a walled area of our library used for smaller classes, media production, or as a testing center.
  • Mac Computer Station:
The Mac Computer Station is a recent addition that hosts 10 Mac computers compatible with our school-wide iPad Program.

Resources: Books and Materials

The Lester L. Greevy Media Center has many useful resources for all of our patrons, both students and teachers. The library houses approximately 35,000 physical resources cataloged in our online Access-It Follett database.  Books are cataloged using the Dewey Decimal system.

Signing Out Library Materials

  • Books in general circulation may be checked out for three (3) weeks.
  • Books that are on a teacher’s reserve list may be checked out overnight only.
  • Books or other materials which have been issued to another student may be reserved.

Lost and Overdue Materials

  • Students are responsible for all materials that are checked out.
  • Please notify the librarian immediately if library materials are lost.
  • Diplomas and other records will be withheld until all obligations are satisfied.

Resources:  Technology

Technological equipment is available for student and teacher use.

  • The library has 30 desktop computers using the Windows operating system. Desktops are preloaded with productivity and licensed software.
  • A Media Suite has been introduced with green screen availability and 12 Mac Computers with video editing software compatible with student iPads.
  • Equipment lending is also available for students and staff, such as calculators and headphones.
  • Printing and Copying services are available for students as well as staff. Laminating services are provided for staff.
  • The library is equipped with a charging station for students to drop off their iPads when they need to be charged. It is each student’s responsibility to come to school with iPads charged, but the cart is available for a quick charge. If the Director of Technology has determined that a student’s iPad is not functioning efficiently, the library has “green” loaner iPads available for student use.  These iPads are returned daily.

Resources: Online Resources

All Services can be accessed via ClassLink.

Loyalsock Historic Digital Archive:  Archived documents from the earliest years of Loyalsock Township, including newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, building projects, as well as generalized celebrations of the Loyalsock Experience.  Each Scrapbook and data source is listed in a yearly account.

AccessIt NEW Card Catalog Search System:  Together, our media centers provide many useful resources for all of our patrons, both students and teachers. The library houses approximately 35,000 physical resources cataloged in our online AccessIt database.  Books are cataloged using the Dewey Decimal system.   AccessIt® is the leading library management system for K-12 schools worldwide. AccessIt combines the power of Sora, our physical resource collection, and multiple databases into an incredibly strong resource for students and faculty alike.  A major update for this school year is the introduction of single sign-on via Classlink. This allows students and faculty to access personalized dashboards that include suggested reading lists and loan information.

On-Demand E-Library:  Sora (Overdrive) e-library is available to all students on their school-issued iPads. The e-library comprises various titles that can be accessed at school or at home. This is a very quick and responsive way to meet students’ needs or desires for reading materials. Many book titles can be added at the student’s request and will appear on the student’s iPad within a few hours.  This service is available via the AccessIt catalog this year for easier use and more effective resource selection.

Pennsylvania’s E-Library and Database:  POWER Library gives Pennsylvanians access to authoritative, subscription-only information that isn’t available through free search engines or web directories. Publishers of the e-resources in POWER LIBRARY have carefully checked them for accuracy.

Epic:  Epic is the world’s largest digital library for kids! This fun, kid-safe, interactive reading app fuels curiosity and reading confidence by letting kids freely explore their interests with instant access to 40,000+ books, audiobooks, learning videos, and more. App codes are provided and promoted by various teachers throughout the school district.  Students can access content during the school day for free, but a paid registration is required for use after school hours.
