LLI FAQ

Lancer Learning Institute Framework

FAQs

Students enrolled in Lancer Learning Institute (LLI) are considered Loyalsock Township students. LTSD staff will monitor academic, social and emotional growth and progress.  Students who enroll in our district sponsored online learning platform will have an easy transition returning to our brick and mortar setting.

What does a day of learning look like for students enrolled in LLI?

  • LLI will follow the Loyalsock Township School District calendar; start date for students is August 31, 2020. The end of the first semester is January 15, 2021.
  • Lancer Learning Institute has a flexible schedule.
  • Individual students and families will customize their schedule to fit individual goals and learning styles. You can expect between 4-6 hours per day for completion of all course content.
  • There are no set times, days or synchronous lessons in the LLI online learning platform for activity completion. However, each course has assignments and deadlines that must be met.

Who will be instructing the courses?

  • LTSD certified educators would stay connected and engaged with students via email, text, phone, or live collaboration sessions through individual coursework modules.
  • Students will have their school district counselors periodically checking in on their course progress and assisting with any questions that may arise pertaining to credit completion and transition back to brick and mortar.
  • Students with IEPs will continue to have accommodations met through a district certified Special Education instructor serving as a co-teacher to the online instructor.
  • Middle School and High School students will have a different instructor assigned to them for each core content course they are enrolled. Elementary students will be assigned one instructor to monitor all course content areas.

What are the Courses and Curriculum?

  • All courses are aligned to the PA Academic Standards.
  • Online learning curriculum modules are provided to the district through Accelerate Education. These modules will vary in course sequence and content from our LTSD brick and mortar or hybrid frameworks.
  • Elementary K-5 and Middle School 6-8 students will complete the four core courses ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies as well as two electives to meet the special areas guidelines.
  • High School Students will be contacted by their counselors after application submission to identify what courses will fit into their required credits for graduation. In order for a HS student to receive credit for the course and successful transition back to our school setting each course must be completed by January 15, 2021.
  • Course modules will be unlocked on a weekly basis by the student’s LTSD online learning instructor.
  • The online learning instruction will be differentiating and remediating instruction based on your child’s needs.
  • Students will be required to complete grade specific PA Career Ready Modules within the LTSD portfolio platform, SmartFutures.

Will my student have an easy transition into the brick and mortar setting?

  • Collaboration between the online learning instructors and grade level content areas teachers will occur throughout the student’s online learning experience to alleviate the gaps and provide continuity of service.
  • We understand that transitions are never easy for some children; therefore, we will utilize all services available when a student returns to our traditional brick and mortar school setting.

Equipment Needed?

  • District issued iPad or Chromebook depending on the grade will be provided to the student.

Things to Note:

  • Parents of K-2 are required to go through a parent orientation module in order to understand the steps and procedures required to help with course navigation.
  • If you select this option, you will be required to commit for the 1st semester, this will end on January 15, 2021. We will reach out in November regarding your intent for enrollment during the second semester.
  • Students enrolled in LLI will be required to complete an orientation course prior to access being given to assigned LLI coursework.

What are my next steps?

  • Fill out the application located on our Loyalsock Lancer Institute webpage. Submit to the district as soon as possible, but not later than August 20, 2020.
  • Pick up date for district issued devices will be communicated once your application is received.
