Guidance

Our school counselor provides individual and group counseling services to support students’ academic, personal and social needs. The counselor helps students:

  • Reach their full potential and make the most of their middle school experience.
  • Make the most of the opportunities available through the instructional program.
  • Explore options and make informed choices about academic and career planning.
  • Develop decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Work through personal or school-related concerns that may affect their success.

The school counselor monitors academic progress and provides support to students who may be experiencing personal challenges. Students may make an appointment with the school counselor by contacting the middle school office.

Student Support

The school counselor also coordinates special education cases and referrals, administers annual standardized testing, serves as a liaison among parents/guardians, teachers and students, and assists the principal with student scheduling.

If a student is suspected of having a learning, speech or emotional need, or may qualify for the Gifted Program, the school counselor can assist families with the evaluation process. Parents/guardians may also request an evaluation. A Multi-Disciplinary Evaluation (MDE) Team, which includes parents/guardians and school personnel, completes the evaluation to determine whether a student needs specially designed instruction. If so, an Individualized Education Program (IEP) is developed.

Additional information about special education and other student support programs is available from the school counselor.
