Medical Office Administration
This course is designed to introduce the student to administrative and general duties found in a medical office, and includes appointment scheduling, records management, electronic health records maintenance, written communications, medical coding, health insurance management, billing and telephone procedures.
Overview: Prepares students for careers in supporting the operations and administration of medical facilities, health insurance firms, and related careers that require a detailed knowledge of health care administration.
What students learn: Billing, medical coding, medical terminology, general office procedures (office software, filing, customer service, administration & leadership), transcription ; legal and regulatory issues related to the medical field.
Indicators of likely success: Medical Office Administration requires strong attention to detail, good interpersonal skills, ability to problem solve, and strong writing and reading comprehension. A substantial portion of the program involves developing a detailed understanding of medical and regulatory terminology.

Work Base Options
All LycoCTC classes are aligned with the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Programs of Study (POS) which are state approved career and technical education programs that credit skills and tasks learned in a CTC to a postsecondary degree, diploma or certificate; or an industry recognized certification. Through PDE’s SOAR program, students can move from high school to college and from college to a high-demand occupation by earning college credit while still in high school.
