Read Naturally
The Read Naturally strategy provides a method to improve reading fluency in struggling readers. Read Naturally combines three powerful strategies to improve fluency: teacher modeling, repeated reading, and progress monitoring.
The three strategies for improving fluency are interrelated. First, students read along while listening to a recording of a high-interest story. Then students practice reading the story until they can read it at a predetermined goal rate. Students monitor their own progress by comparing the number of words read correctly before practicing and then again after practicing.
The Read Naturally strategy results in significant improvement in the reading fluency of students. Other benefits of the strategy includes an increase in student confidence and self-esteem and an interest in reading due to the immediate and frequent feedback throughout the program. Most importantly, students feel responsible for their own success. Visit the website to learn more.
