The mission of the Loyalsock Township School District school counseling department is to provide a comprehensive and developmental school counseling program that addresses academic, career and personal/social needs of each student. In partnership with our schools, families and community, the school counselors support and inspire students to reach their fullest potential.
“The school counselor is an integral system support for the school-family-community relationship that meet the personal/social, academic, and career needs of a large number of students through collaboration, coordination, and consultation with school and community stakeholders.”
–An Examination of School Counselor Involvement in School-Family-
Community Partnerships, J. Bryan, C. Holcomb-McCoy, Professional SchoolCounseling, June 2007.
School counselors help students create an academic plan for their education to prepare for successful careers after graduation and help students develop the necessary skills, such as organizational, time management, and study skills.
School Counselors assist students in career awareness, exploration and planning in order to prepare them for success in post-secondary education and a rapidly changing workplace.
School Counselors offer conflict resolution strategies and individual counseling opportunities as the need arises.
Consultation and Collaboration
School counselors address the academic and developmental needs of all students, not just those in need, by collaborating with students, parents, school staff and the community.
Donald E. Schick Elementary
My career in education began in 1993 upon my graduation from the Pennsylvania State University. (Go Lions!) I lived and worked in Dover, DE for the next 12 years while my husband served in the Air Force. During my time in Delaware, I spent two years working with first graders and then made the move to teaching Kindergarten.
I joined the Loyalsock family in January of 2006 once my husband and I moved back to central Pennsylvania to be closer to our families. I was again teaching kindergarten and during this time we adopted our beautiful daughters Emma and Hannah.
In all I taught for 17 happy years before making an exciting professional change to be the second school counselor in our building. It has now been 6 years that I have worked in my ‘new’ capacity and I continue to feel honored by the gift of working with our students. We are a school family that truly cares about and values each member of our team.
Loyalsock Township Middle School
Loyalsock Township High School
For as long as I can remember, I have had a passion for education and working with others, especially kids and young adults. This is my eighth year as a school counselor and my third year as part of the Loyalsock Township School District family. I have previously worked at both the elementary and middle school levels, but I couldn’t be happier to now call the high school home.
I graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Education from Western New England University in Springfield, MA in 2009. I went on to earn a M.Ed. in Counselor Education with an emphasis on School Counseling in 2012 from Penn State University and have continued my work with students ever since!
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our 7-month old daughter, and my German Shepherd. My favorite hobbies are hiking, camping, tennis, swimming, skiing, and traveling.
