WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (OCTOBER 1, 2026) — The Lancer Foundation recently awarded $2,300 in grants to support three projects at Loyalsock Township School District.
The grants support projects that extend learning beyond traditional classroom instruction while also addressing the health and wellness needs of students.
At Loyalsock Township High School, Modern Language teachers Noelia Huertas and Madison DiCamillo received funding for “Exploring Hispanic Culture Through Food.” The project will incorporate cultural lessons, language learning and hands-on cooking experiences in the school’s food lab. Students will explore Hispanic countries and regions through their history, traditions and cuisine while developing practical skills such as food safety, measuring, teamwork and following directions.
At Donald E. Schick Elementary School, fifth-grade teacher Alanna Van Fleet received funding for a Making Headlines: Traveling Trunk from the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. The trunk will be incorporated into the fifth-grade study of “Rosa Parks: My Story,” giving students opportunities to work with primary sources, historical artifacts and media as they examine the Civil Rights Movement.
The third grant supports the Classroom Care Kit Initiative, a project of the Schick Elementary fifth-grade team. The kits will provide students with basic hygiene and wellness supplies to keep in their classroom cubbies throughout the school year. Providing the same supplies to all students is intended to reduce stigma while ensuring students have access to items they may need during the school day.
The Classroom Care Kit project is being expanded through a partnership with River Valley Health, which will allow the team to provide approximately 150-200 care kits to fifth-grade students.
The three projects, which will impact upwards of 375 LTSD students, represent the foundation’s first grant round of the school year and provide support for both academic enrichment and student well-being.
“These grants are a good example of what the foundation can do when we invest directly in ideas that benefit our students,” said Todd Musheno president of The Lancer Foundation. “It’s exciting to see how donated funds can turn into real opportunities and resources for students in our schools.”
